Terms of use

What Wamy is

Wamy is a messages app provided by Mahara Tech. The services you deal with (a school, an office, a platform) send you their messages and alerts there; you can reply, and start a conversation with an organisation through its contact link. It runs in the browser and can be installed on your device's home screen.

Free of charge

Wamy is free as long as Mahara Tech is able to cover the costs of running and using it.

Your account

  • You sign in with your e-mail and a code sent to it, with your Google account, or with a link a service you use gives you.
  • You are responsible for your e-mail and the devices you signed in on. If you lose a device, sign it out from Settings → Devices.
  • Use a name that does not impersonate someone else.

Acceptable use

You may not use Wamy to:

  • send spam, unsolicited advertising, or flood an organisation with messages;
  • abuse, threaten, harass or discriminate against anyone;
  • send anything unlawful in the Sultanate of Oman, anything that infringes others' rights, or harmful files;
  • impersonate an organisation or a person, try to access other people's accounts, or disrupt the service.

We set limits on messages and attempts to protect everyone. Someone who starts a conversation with an organisation can send a limited number of messages until it first replies.

Organisations that message you

  • Each organisation is responsible for the content and accuracy of its messages, and for having a relationship with you or your consent to message you.
  • Your relationship with the organisation itself (studies, a rental, an order, a subscription) is governed by its own terms; Wamy is not a party to it.
  • The verified mark next to an organisation's name means we checked the account belongs to it, not that we guarantee its services.
  • You can mute or block any organisation at any time, and its messages stop reaching you.

If you open a business

  • Anyone may open a business in Wamy. You declare that you are authorised to speak for it and that the details you give are true.
  • You may message only people who linked their account to your business or started a conversation with you. Do not use Wamy to advertise to people who did not ask for it.
  • Keep your key secret. Whatever is sent with it is your responsibility. If it leaks, create a new key at once.
  • You may not copy the name or identity of another business, or imply that you are one that you are not. We may rename, suspend or delete a business that breaks these terms, with or without notice when people are at risk.
  • Your business sees the e-mail and name of people who write to it without an account in your system. Use them only to answer those people, and protect them as personal data.
  • The green verified mark is given by us after checking the account; it can be withdrawn.

Content and attachments

  • What you write and send stays yours. You allow us to store it and deliver it to whoever you sent it to, which the service needs in order to work.
  • Accepted attachments: photos (JPG, PNG, WebP) and documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, CSV), up to 10 MB each.
  • You are responsible for what you send. Do not send other people's documents or data without the right to.

Suspension and ending

  • If an account breaks these terms we may restrict or suspend it, without notice for serious breaches.
  • We may suspend a sending organisation that misuses the service.
  • You can stop using Wamy at any time, and ask for your account to be deleted at info@wamyapp.com.

Availability

  • We work to keep Wamy available, but we do not guarantee it will run without interruption or that every alert arrives on time.
  • Alerts also depend on your device, browser, its settings and your connection.
  • Do not make Wamy your only channel for anything urgent or an emergency.
  • We may develop the service or change some of its features.

Limitation of liability

We provide Wamy as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damages, for the content of messages written by organisations or users, or for the consequences of a message being late or not arriving. Nothing here limits any right that cannot be waived under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Sultanate of Oman, and its courts are competent for any dispute arising from them. We would rather you contact us first at info@wamyapp.com so we can settle it amicably.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we update the date at the top of this page, and if the change matters we tell you in the app. Continuing to use Wamy after a change takes effect means you accept it.
